Joe Smith is a partner in Hall Smith Office, an architecture firm based in Madison, Georgia. His firm specializes in residential and commercial preservation projects as well as new infill construction within historic districts. Joe’s work includes the recording, assessment, and rehabilitation design of historic buildings of myriad types, sizes, and periods, but with special emphasis on vernacular and utilitarian architecture. His work also focuses on the integration of environmentally sound practices into preservation architecture.
Before establishing his practice in Georgia, Joe was an associate at CWB Architects in Brooklyn, New York, where he specialized in rehabilitation and renovation of historic brownstone residences. In addition to his professional practice and teaching responsibilities, Joe serves as the vice-chair of the Madison Historic Preservation Commission and is a frequent speaker at HPC training sessions throughout the state.
